Evaluation

Section One in what ways does your media product use develop or change forms and conventions of real media products ?

Section Two how does your media product represent particular social groups?
In our thriller there are many different representations which we have tried to communicate. We have gone with the stereotypical female character being vulnerable as she is too young to understand how she is being treated isn’t right. This could relate to the thriller Taken where the girl is vulnerable in a new country and ends up being held captive. With our villain we deviate from the stereotypical male and decided to have a female, showing that you don’t always have to be strong to be in control, and that mental abuse can keep somebody caged in. we decided in our thriller to pick a young girl to act so it would represent the vulnerability of younger people and show how they can be cruelly mistreated and not be old enough to understand.
Section Three what kind of media instituion might distribute your product and why ?
I think our film could be directed by an independent film company like caveman owned by Andy Serkis and coffee. It would be made by a film company like these because it’s a low budget thriller. Our film would be included in the art house category rather than main stream because it’s low budget. I think our film could be digitally distributed possibly as an art house film or straight to DVD for mass distribution through media chains, for example HMV or blockbuster. This is due to the low budget and it being completely separate from any major film producers such as Warner brothers for example the currently in production Unlocked by peter O’Brien or universal studios For example green zone the pros in this method of distribution allow for mass consumption by the general public. The cons are it won’t gross the same amount as if it was released for general cinema release. Our work shows similarities to films published by these independent film makers as it also has a low budget and uses semi professional equipment in production and editing.
Section Four what would your target audience of your media product be ?
Our target audience was for people above the age of fifteen as it contains some scenes that a younger viewer may find disturbing. I think it’s a good age to aim at as it can be for younger or older people giving us a wider target audience. I believe the film appeals too many different people as it can show the emotional and physical trauma of having a bad family life.

Section Five how did you attract adress your audience ?
We decided on our target audience by discussion and research over the internet. We also gave out a number of questionnaires and got the results back showing us what would be best. Our completed production is appropriate to our target audience as it contains all the things the evaluation of the questionnaires say.
